Crestron Home OS 4.5: Locks, Lighting, and Climate Control

Over the last several weeks, Crestron has been rolling out a series of improvements to the Crestron Home® OS. We gave attendees of the ISE® 2025 Expo a preview of some of those advancements, and we recently shared a roundup of several extremely powerful partner integrations (find more on those here).

And now, it’s time for yet another major step forward.

Crestron Home OS 4.5 has arrived, bringing with it another set of exciting new features and enhancements that continue to elevate Crestron Home OS as the leading control platform in the smart home industry. Crestron VP of Marketing Operations and Residential Michael Short notes, “This update addresses key integration challenges —especially for door locks — and expands the possibilities of the Crestron Home OS with a best-in-class lighting integration partner who is pushing the boundaries of lighting in the connected home.” The update also offers advancements in climate control, an improved user experience with the Crestron Home OS app, and more.

Unlocking Seamless Access Control

One of the most significant advancements in Crestron Home OS 4.5 is its enhanced door lock integration. Previously limited to native support for Yale® door locks in the US, the platform now embraces third-party door lock drivers. This means virtually any wireless door lock can easily be integrated into the system, immediately appearing where it should within the access control section of the app.

"This update eliminates a major pain point for integrators and provides unprecedented flexibility for homeowners," explains Short. "The new ‘Door Lock Device Type’ feature empowers Crestron Services Providers (CSPs) to create native drivers for virtually any wireless lock, opening up a world of possibilities."

This enhanced integration also allows for the full user management experience for all connected door locks. Homeowners can now easily create user profiles, assign unique PIN codes, and manage access permissions for individual doors, offering granular control over who enters and when. For example, parents might restrict access to certain areas of the home, or a user might grant temporary access to guests only via specific doors. It’s a new level of personalized security that’s now a reality with Crestron Home OS 4.5.

Significant Advances in Lighting Control with DMF PhaseX Integration

Lighting control reaches new heights in this update with the integration of DMF's innovative PhaseX™ lighting control technology. This groundbreaking solution transmits DMX signals over existing power cables, simplifying installation and configuration of the complex DMX protocol.

"PhaseX is a game-changer for both integrators and homeowners," says Short. "It combines the PhaseX simplicity of installation and commissioning with the reliability, performance, and intuitive nature of the Crestron Home OS Digital Lighting Platform."

With PhaseX lighting control technology and Crestron Home OS 4.5, homeowners can enjoy unparalleled flexibility in lighting control. From dimming and color temperature adjustments to advanced circadian rhythm settings, the possibilities are endless. The nearly effortless integration of DMF's Artafex® 2 and Artafex® 4 product lines with Crestron Home OS 4.5 via the DMX-C protocol and DIN-GWDL gateway further streamlines the setup and control process. (Learn more about the transformative power of DMF PhaseX lighting control technology in this dedicated blog post on the technology.)

Streamlined Climate Control with CoolAutomation

Crestron Home OS 4.5 also marks a significant improvement in HVAC integration with a dedicated CoolAutomation driver. Moving beyond the previous BACnet communications workaround, this native driver simplifies the integration process and provides a more intuitive control experience.

"The collaboration with CoolAutomation has resulted in a seamless and powerful solution for managing even the most complex HVAC systems," notes Short.

The CoolAutomation integration allows for the creation of multiple HVAC zones, each with individual control over the zone’s on/off state, operating mode, fan speed, target temperature, and swing adjustment. Furthermore, the system provides real-time temperature feedback, diagnostic information, and centralized control options, all within the familiar Crestron Home platform environment. Further Enhancements and Refinements

Beyond these major integrations, Crestron Home OS 4.5 introduces app improvements, providing advanced user password requirements for room name changes and better app navigation responsiveness.

As we’ve noted before, dealers can sign up for beta testing for the next update of the Crestron Home OS. That helps ensure that the day an update goes to general availability, dealers will already know all about how it works. The beta program allows integrators to experience new versions of the Crestron Home OS in their homes and showrooms before new updates are released — so the day a new version ships, integrators can be completely comfortable with the changes to a client’s system.
